Whether you're sick of them, and just wish they'd go already, or horribly sad to see them go because you enjoy burning their old Woodstock Nation CDs onto your iPod, the Boomer generation is not long for this workforce.
In "Choosing the Right Path: Insights on the Changing Face of America's Workforce," John H. Hudson, seeks to explore the positive and negative aspects of the upcoming retirement of the Baby Boomer generation.
According to Hudson, between 2009 and 2012, 43 percent of the people currently holding managerial positions in corporate America will retire from their jobs, leaving behind an enormous management gap in organizations of all sizes. With more than 30 years of experience as a human resources executive and a Baby Boomer himself, Hudson has performed extensive research on how corporate America will change as this generation segues out of the workforce.
"Choosing the Right Path" aims to address conflicts and solutions that may arise from the loss of executives in the next few years. Hudson say he means to help retiring individuals and their workplaces ease through what could be an expensive transition.
He also would like to answer the questions retirees and companies will be faced with over the next several years: Are the companies' retirement policies fully understood? What will these retirees do with their time and knowledge? Does the company understand the new demographics of the workforce? What mechanisms and programs are being planned to duplicate those key competencies of the retirees?
Whether the book is good or bad, it's probably good to know those things before the Boomer void opens up.
