Relocating Hesitant Employees? Maybe You Need…
June 30, 2009
Cartus Corporation, a provider of global mobility management and workforce development solutions, announced an enhanced version of its Virtual Resource Center (VRC), a Website designed to support corporations that need to move employees from one city to
another—whether in the U.S. or around the world.

First launched in 2007, the VRC is a Web-based resource center that not only tells transferring employees or candidates about their new hometown—or homeland—but also shows it to them. The newest iteration, the company says, provides "a one-stop shopping experience where relocating employees or candidates can discover, search, and visualize the new location."

Customized for the needs of each client, the VRC also can be
used for recruitment and to acquaint new hires with their prospective
employer's culture and objectives. The latest version includes pre-recorded presentations intended to familiarize employees and their families with the new location before they see it.

The VRC features a virtual tour of cities, neighborhoods, office and job sites, homes for sale or rent, shopping areas, school districts, recreational facilities, sample commutes to and from work, and cultural activities. It also includes links to local news and information, and to existing Cartus relocation tools and resources, including Candidate Self-Assessment Workbooks, moving checklists, and the TMA Country Navigator—a Web-based tool that offers tips on how to conduct business with people from other cultures.

"In today's business environment, it is critical for organizations to have a robust platform for sharing the latest information with employees and
candidates," says Sue Latina-Cohen, Cartus' vice president of consulting. "In addition, many companies are consolidating locations and workforces as mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and related initiatives pick up speed. This means many companies are transitioning quickly, and in the case of a short-notice group move, immediate access to information on the new location becomes paramount for employees."

Cartus says the latest enhancements to the VRC support client companies' retention of key talent by helping their employees make better-informed decisions about relocating. The "continuously updated site" provides information on topics such as moving and home sale/purchase logistics. Its features also can be accessed by all family members so everyone has a chance to "visit" the new location.
