What Do Your Learners Know About Leveraged Buyouts? February 02, 2010
Leveraged buyouts sound intimidating to those with no background on the subject. And those with background in this area probably have forgotten at least some of what they're supposed to remember for the sake of your company. Luckily, a new book is out that offers a primer on that topic, along with other issues related to strategic acquisitions.
"Strategic Acquisition, Divestment, and LBO: Global Dealmaking" by Sam P. Dagher, Ph.D., seeks to take the mystery out of identifying and analyzing companies. The book's publisher says it will appeal to those in management who want to learn more about the intricacies of buying and selling companies
The book, which describes the theory and practice of strategic acquisitions and divestment, is organized into six parts. It covers the following:
• Concepts and terms related to the acquisition and divestment process.
• Information on the selection of a business to acquire, or the choice of a fully-owned subsidiary to divest.
• The procedure for acquisitions.
• An analysis of divestment versus retention, and the procedure by which a corporation can detect or recognize a divestment candidate.
• A discussion of leveraged buyout as a process and how it is structured and financed.
• Specific case studies of a "complex and comprehensive nature" to illustrate the information presented.
"The book," says Dagher, "presents material related to the decision-making process within national and multinational organizations that impact communities and the lives of the employees living within these communities."
