Recognition for the Real World

Globoforce and Nortel to host free webinar on best practices for tough times
By Jeanie Casison
While the financial crisis continues to impact companies around the world, experts are weighing in on the importance of employee recognition during periods of economic uncertainty. Human resources and business leaders who want to integrate recognition into their organization may benefit by participating in a free Webinar presented by Globoforce, a specialist in on-demand employee recognition solutions with headquarters in Southborough, Massachusetts and Dublin, Ireland, and its client, global communications technology leader, Nortel. The webinar, "Building the Business Case for Strategic Employee Recognition During Tough Economic Times," will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 11:30 EST.
"We have found that customers such as Nortel believe that this is exactly the time that they should be spending dollars on employee recognition to ensure higher morale and better productivity, resulting in bottom line results for the remainder of the year," says Andrea Dumont, senior director of global marketing for Globoforce.
During the webinar, participating panelists from Globoforce and Nortel will provide practical tips and information on how to successfully implement an employee recognition program. Executive buy-in, training and communications are just a few of the fundamental topics slated for discussion. The presentation will also focus on Excellence@Nortel, the peer-to-peer recognition program that reaches 26,000 employees in 60 countries as a successful case study.
According to Dumont, there are three critical elements that she hopes people will take away from the Globoforce webinar. "The first piece is that recognition is critical. It is a business imperative. When there is an economic downturn, people need to know they are honored and respected," she says. "Second, recognition has become the heart of Nortel, and a lot of managers and executives have embraced the culture as part of their mission, culture and objectives. The third piece will focus on helping managers understand the role recognition can play on the review cycle and on team morale."
Nortel Global Recognition Leader Rob Schmitter agrees that employee recognition can have tremendous results. "Even during these tough economic times, recognition programs like the one we launched can make a difference in terms of employee engagement. It becomes even more important to acknowledge good work, and reward employees so that they feel valued," he says.
A recording of the Webinar will be available free of charge following the event on the Globoforce Web site. More information is available on www.globoforce.com.
