Fontainebleau Miami Beach to Reopen in Fall
June 18, 2008
Completion of $1 billion renovation of iconic property on schedule
By Jeanie Casison

Already an architectural masterpiece, the Fontainebleau Miami Beach is undergoing a total transformation that will stay true to the spirit of its visionary Morris Lapidus. When the new $1 billion makeover is unveiled this fall, it will be even more stylish and sophisticated than the original.

"We are moving the resort into the future with a nod to its iconic past," said Jeffrey Soffer, Fontainebleau Resorts Executive Chairman. "Fontainebleau will be infused with the sexy, glamorous, ultramodern spirit of the idiosyncratic original. With the help of a team of internationally-acclaimed architects, we are harnessing the resort’s storied setting and striking architectural details to create a 21st century showplace that will cater to a new generation of tastemakers."

Among the most distinguishing features of the Fontainebleau Miami Beach are two new towers, 1,540 rooms and suites, 11 restaurants and lounges, including dining destinations by celebrated chefs Alfred Portale, Scott Conant and Alan Yau, a 40,000-square-foot Lapis spa and a picturesque poolscape fronting the Atlantic Ocean. Historical design elements will also be present with circular ceilings, bow-tie design motifs and the famed "Staircase to Nowhere."
