In her new book Glow, author Lynda Gratton teaches the reader how to radiate enthusiasm, positive energy and inspiration even when problems at work deter everyone else. Gratton encourages leaders to have an attitude that inspires others, fosters good relationships, and creates a positive work environment.
The book has three guiding principles (a cooperative mindset, jumping across worlds, and igniting latent energy) and nine actions that make the reader indispensable to his or her company and make an exciting career. These actions are:
• Developing the daily habits of cooperation • Mastering the art of great conversation • Acting on the "smell of the place" • Increasing the value of your networks • Jumping out of the boundaries that constrain you • Finding and moving to boundaryless places • Asking questions that spark energy • Crafting meaningful and exciting work
Towards the end of the book, Glow includes a quiz that rates the reader on how well his or her business "glows." After answering as series of questions on a scale of one to five, the reader consults a chart to see how he or she ranks. Then there are several "profiles" where the reader learns what are his or her strengths and weaknesses according to the quiz.
Lynda Gratton is a professor of management practice at the London Business School and is the author of six books, including bestseller Hot Spots.
