McDonald’s To Award Contest Winners Visa, McD’s Gift Cards
June 09, 2009
By William Ng

McDonald’s is winding down the promotional period of its gift card sweepstakes in support of its McCafe coffee product launch. The fast-food chain will award each of the two grand prize winners a $50,000 Visa gift card and a $500 McDonald’s Arch Card on August 3. The five sweepstakes finalists will each get a $1,000 gift card from Visa and a $50 gift card from the restaurant.

Launched in May and ending on June 21, McDonald’s has been inviting consumers to submit personal stories at www.mcdonalds.com/mccafe about why they or someone they know deserves the gift card prizes, in a contest called “McCafe Your Day.” McDonald’s also has been awarding 1,000 Visa cards and $50 Arch Cards every week to 10 winners in a weekly drawing that runs till August 2.

Hailed by McDonald’s as its biggest product launch in three decades (since its Egg McMuffin sandwich), McCafe is the company’s new premium coffee lineup consisting of flavored cappuccinos, lattes, mochas, and iced versions of those espresso-based beverages. They are now sold at 11,000 restaurants nationwide, in competition with Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts.
