Adecco Discovers Worker Appreciation Prevalent
February 25, 2009
New survey by Adecco Group North America shows employees loving their jobs
Tough times are seeing the gainfully employed more thankful these days. The most recent American Workplace Insights Survey conducted by Adecco Group North America, reveals that a significant number of U.S. workers—78 percent—love what they do just as much or more than they did before entering a recession a year ago. Apparently the increase in heavier workloads and longer hours across the board didn't have an influence on workers sentiments.

The vast majority of people do love their jobs. This is a very positive sign and employers need to thank workers for what they do and all of the effort they are putting in every day, says Bernadette Kenny, chief career officer for Adecco Group North America, a recruitment and workplace solutions firm headquartered in Melville, New York. Recognition and incentive programs are part of this message. Say 'Please' and 'Thank you.' Small things have an impact."

While U.S. workers expressed satisfaction with their jobs, their relationship with their company's leadership seems to be a bit rocky. According to the American Workplace Insights survey, 90 percent say their confidence in their company's executive team has been negatively impacted because of the current state of the economy.

Honest communication is a good start when it comes to improving employer-employee relations. Employers need to have commitment and management actions that show total transparency with how the business is doing and how the competition is doing. They need to share with all workers the state of the business with transparency and communication, Kenny says.

Findings from the American Workplace Insights Survey are available on www.adecco.com.
