Kroger Stores announce program to give customers free groceries
By Jeanie Casison

Kroger Stores has announced a new program where customers can receive free groceries by exchanging their tax refund or economic stimulus checks for a Kroger gift card. Launched on May 2, the program is available at all Kroger stores nationwide. Customers can bring in their tax refund or economic stimulus checks and exchange them for Kroger gift cards loaded with an extra $30, $60 or $120 added to it.

"Grocery bills represent a significant expenditure for the average American family," says David B. Dillon, Kroger chairman and chief executive officer. "Kroger's program allows our customers to stretch their grocery dollars further. We are excited about the opportunity to touch the lives of millions of families across the country by helping them extend their household budgets through this special program."

The additional Gift Card amounts correspond with the amount of the economic stimulus or tax refund check. Checks of $300 receive a Kroger Gift Card valued at $330; checks of $600 receive a Kroger Gift Card valued at $660; and checks of $1,200 receive a Kroger Gift Card valued at $1,320.
