Five Questions to Consider When Buying Gift Cards
October 03, 2008
By Nathan Adkisson

1. What is more important to you as an employer: giving a gift that will please an employee, or one that will be unique and that the recipient will associate with the company?

2. Will this be a surprise gift given after a job well done, or used as part of a program where the employee knows what he or she needs to do to get the card?

3. What is the state of the company selling the card? Is its financial position strong?

4. Who is this gift card appropriate for? A young employee or an older one? A woman or a man? A single person or someone with a family? Don't give a steakhouse gift card to a vegan.

5. Is the amount on the card a good match for the price of items in the store? At a jewelry store, $25 may not be useful, and hence, not appreciated.
