Welcome to Training magazine's first e-training supplement. From the title, I’m sure you’ve surmised that this supplement will delve into online learning strategies, trends, and technologies. But I think it goes beyond that as we home in on this dawning age of Learning 2.0 that fosters an environment of community and social networking.
We've all heard the adage: Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime. I think Learning 2.0 takes it one step further: Teach him how to share that information with others, and everyone will benefit from collaborating on new and innovative ways to catch fish. And that is what Learning 2.0—and Training's partnership with The eLearning Guild on this supplement and Training's Technology in Action (TIA) conference-within-a-conference at DevLearn 2008—is all about: collaboration.
Training readers already are heading down the Learning 2.0 road. Our 2007 Industry Report of corporations and educational institutions with 100 or more employees found the following:
• 11% are using communities of practice • 9% are using mobile learning • 7% are using wikis • 6% are using blogs
I hope this e-training supplement will spark ideas for your online learning programs and also serve as a call to action to "join the Webvolution," as online learning guru Tony O'Driscoll phrases it. In the spirit of collaboration, please send your feedback and suggestions for future article topics in e-training to me at lorri.freifeld@nielsen.com. I look forward to collaborating with you!
